A wonderful original Victorian bee-keeping book dating from 1864, making this beautiful volume more than 160 years old.

Bee-Keeping was written by “The Times” Bee-Master, now identified as John Cumming, and published in London by Sampson Low, Son & Marston in 1864. This is the first edition of the work.

The book is presented in its lovely original green cloth-covered boards, featuring an embossed decorative border and beautiful gilt bee illustration and lettering to the front cover.

Inside are fascinating Victorian-era writings on bees and bee-keeping, along with wonderful black and white illustrations. Subjects include the inhabitants of the hive, queen bees, worker bees and drones, hives, collecting honey and the practical management of bees.

The book also contains handwritten names, numbers and notes from previous owners, adding another layer to its long history.

A particularly beautiful antique book for a bee lover or collector, and equally wonderful for display, vintage styling, authentic ephemera, junk journals, collage and mixed media.
